Symmetry is key!
Lower back pain is not a clear-cut case!
Deadlifting and heavy squats brought about pain in this young athlete.
Is he strong enough to do the exercises? Absolutely!
Does he have good technique? Yup!
But he still had back pain.
Notice the great alignment in the first picture and then the difference in the 2nd picture! You can see that there is a symmetry issue going on.
Why is this so?
This movement aberration has been “implanted” one way or another and the body does a GREAT job of dealing with this but only for so long.
Chances are the deadlifts or the squats were not the main reason for the pain but the asymmetry left to right did him in. It was just the body’s way of saying, “Enough is enough! I can do what you are asking of me, but I can’t take this crap any longer!”
Corrective exercise’s GOAL is to re-establish bad movements that have been created over years (YES, YEARS of bad habits and occurrences) …once you get really close, maintenance is all that is needed!
