Achilles tendinitis, what is that?
As thick and strong as the tendon is, it is vulnerable to some common irritations.
An Achilles tendinitis is exactly that: an “ – itis”. It is an inflammation of the tendon because something around just isn’t doing its job.
This can be problems in:
- Arches
- Foot
- Knee
- Hip and pelvis
About 5cm above the attachment point of the Achilles tendon to the heel bone (calcaneus), there is a sweet spot whereby there is very little blood supply to help heal the tendon when it is irritated.
This can delay the healing process.
Treating the tendon needs to happen but getting evaluated to ensure that nothing else along the chain is affected is key. Compensations are your body’s defense mechanism. Your body is smart to avoid pain but in the process, can create pain!
