Taxi Mom
It was my early day today, started work at 6am and rushed home at 3:30pm to meet my girls getting off the bus. I always thought I was really active at work, I am not sitting at a desk all day, however when I got home I checked my steps to date on my Polar Loop and I had actually only done 4000 steps! I had been helping others lead active healthy lifestyles but not really helping my own. This afternoon was busy, homework and supper prep to be ready to leave the house by 4:40 to drive my youngest daughter to her first swim team practice. I was surrounded by many other mothers proudly looking on at their children swimming thinking I was not making any progress towards achieving my activity goal for the day. I could not sit idle, but helped my eldest daughter finish her homework before getting her to ballet class.
Finally at home, girls are in bed it is 8:30pm we are all lying down listening to Sofia read us a story. I was really tempted to stay in bed with them and sleep until the morning. Everyone had done their activity for the day except me, I decided to get up and take a 40 min power walk and then finish with some exercises and stretches at home. Really happy I did, and I surpassed the 10,000 step mark, although still shy of my desired 12,000. It is often difficult to keep motivated but it definitely helps to set goals. An evening walk also works wonders on clearing your mind of all the events of the day.
Please let me know your strategies to stay active while still getting the kids to all their activities…
