A new way to release hamstring tension!
Have you felt that your hamstrings are missing flexibility? Are you stretching every day but there is not much change? Have you tired everything?
Here is a simple exercise, which should be able to help you out as strange as it sounds and all you need is a firm rubber ball or golf ball.
Measure your hamstring flexibility like you usually would
Roll the ball under your foot, near the heel for 1 minute with strong but not painful pressure
Retest and you should notice a difference
Repeat this daily and multiple times per day!
There is a reason for this of course!
All muscles are enveloped by connective tissue called fascia. Fascia is a continuous membrane that surrounds us and has multiple connections throughout.
Just like muscles though, fascia can become tight and taut. So when we have chronic tightness, it called also be due to tight fascia! The fascia that surrounds the hamstring group of muscles ends under the foot right by the heel. By massaging the plantar portion of the foot near the heel, you are releasing tension from the fascia that could be partly responsible for the decrease in extensibility!
