{"id":14106,"date":"2018-10-19T14:22:31","date_gmt":"2018-10-19T18:22:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sportspecialists.ca\/?p=14106"},"modified":"2018-10-19T14:22:31","modified_gmt":"2018-10-19T18:22:31","slug":"improving-your-mobility-through-breathing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportspecialists.ca\/fr\/2018\/10\/19\/improving-your-mobility-through-breathing\/","title":{"rendered":"Improving your mobility through breathing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When we assess shoulder neck, shoulder and upper back mobility with our clients, we also<br \/>\nassess the way the person moves through the trunk and this often includes if the person is<br \/>\nbreathing well enough.<\/p>\n<p>The diaphragm attaches from your T12, L1, and L2 vertebrae and is tethered to the rib cage,<br \/>\nand internal abdominal wall.<\/p>\n<p>When you breathe in, the diaphragm actually descends down into the belly and when you<br \/>\nexhale, the diaphragm pushes the air out by rising up into the rib cage.<\/p>\n<p>Diaphragmatic breathing has a role in relaxation, decreasing overuse of the shoulders and neck<br \/>\nwhen breathing and helps to \u201cmassage\u201d the visceral organs.<\/p>\n<p>Rib breathing helps to expand the rib cage. Think of your trunk like an accordion. Breathing in<br \/>\nexpands the ribs apart and exhaling pulls them back in. Because the ribs attach to your upper<br \/>\nback and linked to your shoulder blade, mobilizing the ribs will inadvertently help improve your<br \/>\ntrunk mobility!<\/p>\n<p>If you have shoulder, neck or upper back soreness, call us and book an appointment!
