Fit Tip: Skiing Like a Champ!
“ I’m skiing like a champ!”
“ What are you working on to get stronger?”
“ My flexibility!”
“ Your what…? Really? Being more flexible makes you stronger?”
Mobility will trump stability and strength every time! If your hips are NOT mobile then they cannot be FULLY stable and if the joint has issues maintaining its stability, it CANNOT get as strong as we would like!
To gain some simple mobility in the hips, try these on for size:
1. ½ kneel inner thigh stretch:
– Get into a ½ kneeling position with the other leg out far, foot flat
– Keeping the foot flat and back in good posture, rock your bum back and forth towards your heel 10 times. You should feel a great inner thigh stretch on the long leg and at the same time hip mobility on the bending leg.
2. Active lock hip bridge:
– Lie on your back and place a small lacrosse ball under you ribs on one side. Trap it with your knee and keep it there. Drive your other leg up into a bridge position to feel a good contraction of the glutes and a stretch of the top thighs
Ski season has started a bit early this year. We are more than happy and capable to help you ski like mad this year!
